Progress on the North Shore and the impact of ARPA

Thompson Landing on Royal, Kamloops’ premier riverfront development, is excited to welcome residents to their new homes in the coming months. Located in a quiet neighbourhood on the city’s North Shore, this collection of 64 condos offers the perfect setting for those seeking easy access to local businesses and amenities, recreational opportunities, a vibrant atmosphere, and a strong sense of community.



Over the last few years, the North Shore has seen an influx of new startup businesses and those relocating, welcoming over 25 new businesses in the last 12 months alone. Currently, there are four construction projects underway, with plans for another 2-3 in the next two years.


“We’re planning for around eight buildings in the next 5 to 7 years, which will bring between 400 and 700 new residents to the North Shore,” said Jeremy Heighton, executive director of the North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA). “This creates greater diversity for our marketplaces and brings new opportunities for recreation, shopping, and development for a big part of the neighbourhood that hadn’t seen this level of growth before.”

Heighton added that the growing momentum and desire to be on the North Shore is fueled largely by proactive partners like ARPA Investments (ARPA).


“ARPA has been the driver of a lot of our developments in our neighbourhood. Whether it’s social programming, supports for causes, arts, or entertainment, they have been there to create this sense of community.”


Joshua Knaak, partner at ARPA and current president of the NSBIA, and the ARPA team have been instrumental in driving community development projects while mentoring others interested in contributing to the area’s growth.


As the North Shore continues to grow, the NSBIA is working on improving transportation options and infrastructure. They are collaborating with the City on parking management strategies to ease traffic congestion while also working to create more recreational pathways.


“This is what I call the ‘connective tissue’ – ensuring people can bike, walk, run, play in areas that are easily accessible through our primary corridors,” explained Heighton.


Additionally, the NSBIA is committed to expanding community art projects this year, with two murals already completed in the area and the first phase of a new lighting project recently finished.


“We have more plans to expand on the lighting upgrades around the Tranquille Corridor, as these improvements help create a sense of community, safety and comfort, making the North Shore a more walkable place. Now is the right time to come to the neighbourhood as things are beginning to transition,” Heighton added.

With new developments in the area, the recent opening of an urgent care clinic, an increase in walkable areas and green spaces, and a wave of new businesses and restaurants, Thompson Landing on Royal is the perfect location - set to offer a rich and fulfilling living experience for those who choose to call the waterfront residential development home.
